At first I was unsure about whether I wanted to do the stamps traditionally or digitally so experimented in both, however I wasn't too much of fan of either, so instead I scrapped what I had started and began again. Eventually after some more practice and change of style I produced some digital stamps that I liked. The picture at the top was my idea for the stamp for Ada Lovelace, however after speaking with Dwayne he advised me to rethink what the stamp should contain as her contribution to science needs to be more explicit.

After I started researching my topic, which is British female scientists, I turned to looking at inspiration from existing stamps. I was able to find examples of stamps that focus on novels from British writers, and British explorers. Along with the British stamps, I looked at stamps that I find visually interesting or pleasing to the idea. I personally find the first three stamps above rather bland and dull because the colours are rather diluted and the compositions are very straightforward without interesting angels or perspectives. When it comes to my stamps I would like to make them look like they have life with the colours and composition.

Womens fashion of the 1840'sAda was the daughter of a Baron and was married to an earl, which meant she was very much part of the upper class. Her work on the first computer program also took place in 1843 so I wanted to focus my research on the upper class women of this time.

Since the 1820's was the regency era, the empire waistline was all the rage and even though working women couldn't afford the fancy dresses of the time they could alter their garments to fit in with the trend. |
