Setting

Before starting my thumbnails I wanted to have a good understanding of where the story itself is set, since M.R James likes to have real places in mind when writing his stories. Sadly Råbäck Manor isn't open to the public as people still live there so I was only able to get one picture of the outside. The church in the story isn't actually named and took a few rewording of google searches to get Varnhem Abbey, which was gifted to an actual Magnus Gabriel De La Gardie by a Swedish Queen. I don't think the Abbey is described exactly the same in the story, but you can definitely see that it inspired the one from the story. I think it's worth having some idea of what the author was imagining when he was describing these places, but i do plan on using my imagination and the text to draw my idea of the church and manor.
