Title sequence - referencing and practice

After planning out my title sequence, I started to digitalise it. First I looked at videos on YouTube that could be used as references for the animation I wish to create. In my title sequence I want my character to be walking and flipping between her everyday self and when she has to fight, so to help create this, I used the video down below to reference from. At first creating this walking animation was kind of difficult however after a few frames it becomes easier to do.

The time period I chose for my costume drama was the regency era, as it is one of my favourite parts of women's fashion. The empire waist line and simplicity make this an elegant dress, as well as making it easier to draw and replicate for animations. To get an idea of how to go about drawing the dress, I referenced some illustrations, and the movie Emma., which is said to be very historically accurate when it comes to the outfits worn by the characters. This movie was also good for understanding how the fabric sits on the figure, so I used a few clips from the movie as my main references.

With this animation I wanted to zoom in on the character so practiced it without any background and few details, however, I think it would look a bit less weird with a background. At the moment the character just looks like they are growing, rather than it zooming in, hopefully a background will fix it.

For the final part of the title sequence I wanted it to zoom out of a portrait with the main character and their mother, before the title appears on the screen. To get an idea of how I should compose the drawing, I looked at portraits of women and their children. This also helped me understand how children would have dressed and how they were viewed at this time in society.

At first I was having a hard time coming up with a unique idea for a costume drama intro that involved big hats and dancing, so thought of mixing two of the possible genre choices. this led to me thinking of a character that would be a young protagonist who was tasked with saving the world, but would also have to maintain her position in society as a lady recently introduced to society, and expected to marry. After looking at famous intros of varying genres I decided to narrow down my research to intros fitting to the genre. When it came to the costume drama, I struggled to find many good intros, however since I decided to mix two genres it was easier finding intros fitting the sci-fi genre.

For my first task this semester I had to create 10 gifs of varying frames, which are based on the events of 2020, such as the lockdown due to the covid19 pandemic. Many of my gifs are based on personal things from my lockdown experience, as well as the periods in between when restrictions were eased. For example I started to learn to skateboard when the rule of 6 was implemented.
